How does InsurancePen work? What should I use it for?
InsurancePen is used for two things. The first is creating new buying groups or growing existing ones. This is done by simply registering for an account (or using your Facebook account) to signal your interest in buying groups. The bigger the group gets, the more likely it is to receive discounts or increased coverage or incentive offers.
The second thing InsurancePen does is allow you to apply for insurance online. The application is secure and is only shared with those you send it to. Once you fill out your application once, you can use it to get proposal quotes from many carriers and group programs. You can also go in and edit or delete it as you choose to. This means you may never have to start your insurance application process from scratch again!
So the best way to think of using InsurancePen is you are either browsing by joining groups of interest to you, or shopping by sending your application to the group programs you wish to get a price quote from.
Does InsurancePen provide me quotes from insurance carriers?
Yes. The insurance carrier or affiliated licensed insurance agent representing them provide you with the quote using the information you provided them through your application on InsurancePen. You will receive your quote from the carrier or agent via your InsurancePen account. You can choose to be notified to your private email when messages are received, or disable this option, and just visit InsurancePen to check your messages and quotes at your leisure. InsurancePen is not an insurance carrier or licensed insurance agent. InsurancePen is a website that facilites you sharing your information to obtain quotes with multiple carriers and accessing multiple group discount programs.
When I receive the quotes, how do I purchase insurance from the carrier I choose?
You can respond to your preferred choice for insurance using your InsurancePen account by simply replying to the sender of the quote. You may also choose to switch to private email conversations or simply call the quote provider from their contact information.
Who does InsurancePen send my application information to?
Only the insurance carriers and group discount programs you select and join. Insurance carriers, agents and others authorized to market insurance are governed by laws, regulations, and codes of ethics regarding the privacy of your information. InsurancePen sends the information securely to each insurance carrier, agent or other entity you select to ensure that your personal information is safe.
I have made my decision to buy insurance for this year, but am still receiving quotes, questions or other messages from my groups. How do I turn this off until I am ready to shop again?
You can simply turn off notifications to your private email in your Manage Profile section of your account. You can always turn it back on when you are ready to shop for insurance again. This is part of the value of using InsurancePen. Other insurance marketplace websites open you up to receiving emails to your personal account long after you have made a decision.
Does Insurancepen only allow access to group discounts for auto and homeowners insurance?
No, Insurancepen will be announcing group discounts for business insurance and health insurance as well. We anticipate that the website will start with the most commonly used commercial insurance forms such as group health, workers compensation, BOP in general liability first, but look for updates. As trade associations and other groups join Insurancepen, you will see the corresponding forms to their programs added.
